Alert - Latest Text Scam
Below is a report of a current Text Scam as recent as May 5, 2017:
Some customers and non-customers have received fraudulent text messages that appear to be from People’s United Bank claiming their account is locked. The text includes a link to a fraudulent site that has a fake message about the Patriot Act and requests the receiver to click a “Message Received” button. The site then requests the customer's logon credentials and subsequently takes them to a page requesting them to provide their personal and banking information.
The actual text message may appear as follows:
While you may NOT have been targeted in this attack, we are taking this opportunity to remind our customers that such automated messages are fraudulent and no information should be entered. People's United Bank never contacts customers by phone with automated messages regarding blocked debit cards, nor with requests for sensitive information such as PIN, passwords, account numbers, username, personal, or account information.
If you believe you were a victim of this scam and provided any information over the phone, please contact our Call Center immediately at 1-800-894-0300. When uncertain about your debit card, call the phone number on the back of your card to verify if there are any problems.
